Assessment: Task 1: March controlled test.

Global events of international significance and their impact on international and domestic tourism. Political situations and unforeseen occurrences (e.g., civil war, terrorism, natural disasters, recession, diseases, accidents) and their impact on tourism and the economy of affected countries.
Tour itineraries and tour plans; route planning; choice of transport and accommodation; choice of tourist attractions and activities to suit tourist profiles; compiling a day-by-day itinerary; compiling a tour budget; health and safety for tourists; travel documentation and customs regulations.
Revision and consolidation with reinforcement activities and controlled test.

World icons and attractions (World Heritage Sites): difference between attraction and icon, reasons for icons, economic significance, tourist profiles and statistics, and study of icons according to exam guideline headings. Factors contributing to success of a tourist attraction and characteristics of successful attractions.
Foreign market share statistics on inbound tourism (arrivals, most visited provinces, length of stay, average expenditure, activities).
Promotional and advertising techniques; marketing budget; marketing South Africa internationally; core business of SA Tourism; opportunities for marketing (ITB Berlin, World Travel Market London); TOMSA; branding; Tourism Indaba and Getaway show.
GDP and the multiplier effect; strong and weak rand; interpreting currency rate sheets; currency conversion; bank selling/buying rates; effects of exchange rates on inbound and outbound tourism and travel patterns; exchange rate fluctuations.
